Welcome to our family. We hope you enjoy our website.

Please see our upcoming litters page for our available German Shepherd puppies for sale. Our puppies are large and have straight backs.

My husband and I have been married since 2005. My husband had a German Shepherd as a boy. He still talks about “REX” and the impact that his friend had on his life. Our first Shepherd we brought into our family was “Dupree”. We purchased him from a local breeder while living in Maryland. We took the free training class that was offered by the breeder. At the first class, the trainer commanded him “down”. When he did not do as told, the trainer took his foot, stepped forcibly on the leash, and put him down. That was our last training session. Dupree was submissive and cowered to a raised voice. He was afraid of thunder and the dark. It took years of praise training before we built a true bond. He was taken from us too soon. He lived until February 25th of 2017. He was only 6 years old.

David, my husband, started doing research on the breed, genetics and ailments of these beautiful animals. We began our search for “the perfect” dog. We began by looking away from the Americanized German Shepherd. Their sloped backs predisposed the animals to hip dysplasia. We wanted a dog with a family temperament but with natural protective instincts. We wanted an intelligent dog that could be trained for service. We wanted a dog that was not only smart, but healthy too!

We found several breeders on the web and started following their work. We looked at their standards and adopted them as our own. We purchased our dogs from the most reputable Old Fashioned German Shepherd breeders in the Country. They were gracious enough to give us their time, knowledge and breeding rights. I feel honored to be able to continue their Old World German Shepherd breeding lines.

Our dogs are very large and oversized when compared to the Americanized German Shepherds. They are gentle giants! Our German Shepherds have family temperaments. They are naturally protective but not agressive. Our animals are not only a thinking breed, but are extremely smart, and trainable for any type of service. The average reported lifespan of this is beautiful breed is an astounding 11-14 years.

We test our dogs for DM (Canine degenerative myelopathy. Dogs can be normal, carriers, or can have this genetic disease. We have only DM normal dogs. This ensures that this genetic disease is not passed on to any of our puppies.

A dog with degenerative myelopathy often stands with its legs close together and may not correct an unusual foot position due to a lack of conscious proprioception

Canine degenerative myelopathy, also known as chronic degenerative radiculomyelopathy, is an incurable, progressive disease of the canine spinal cord that is similar in many ways to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Onset is typically after the age of 7 years and it is seen most frequently in the German shepherd dog, Pembroke Welsh corgi, and boxer dog, though the disorder is strongly associated with a gene mutation in SOD1 that has been found in 43 breeds as of 2008, including the wire fox terrierChesapeake Bay retrieverRhodesian ridgeback, and Cardigan Welsh corgi.[1][2]Progressive weakness and incoordination of the rear limbs are often the first signs seen in affected dogs, with progression over time to complete paralysis. Myelin is an insulating sheath around neurons in the spinal cord. One proposed cause of degenerative myelopathy is that the immune system attacks this sheath, breaking it down. This results in a loss of communication between nerves in lower body of the animal and the brain.

We also have PennHIP done on our breeding dogs. The AIS PennHIP method has strong scientific foundation as the most effective hip screening tool available for dogs. AIS PennHIP testing is accurate in puppies as young as 16 weeks of age. It gives an estimate of the risk for the painful osteoarthritis (OA) of canine hip dysplasia (CHD) later in life.

We believe that starting with healthy animals can reduce or eliminate health problems. We post pedigrees, DM results, and PennHIP results on each of our dogs.

We are a small, family business in Northern Virginia. Our dogs live with us and are socialized and obedience trained. Our puppies are whelped and weaned in our home.

WHILE WE WILL NOT SHIP OUR PUPS, WE ARE VERY CLOSE TO DULLES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.  WE WELCOME YOU TO FLY IN AND PICK UP! AT 8 WEEKS OF AGE, OUR PUPS WILL BE AROUND 10 LBS  AND STILL FIT IN AN UNDERSEAT CARRIER FOR SOME AIRLINES.

We appreciate your visit to our website. Please contact us with any interests or questions on the contact link. A questionnaire is required before the purchase of any puppy. We want to do our best to place the right dog in the right home.
